Assessment: Unit 1: Two hour Written Paper which consists of 40% course mark, taking place in June 2016.

Learners will also develop an understanding of commercial processes and an in-depth knowledge GCSE Design & Technology will prepare students to participate confidently & successfully in an increasingly technological world.

You will gain awareness and learn from wider influences on Design & Technology including historical, social and cultural, environmental & economic factors.

The students work with a range of modern materials including reflective nylons. They study the history and development of the shoe and brand.

In year 9 the students work on a skills based project in preparation for their GCSE folder. They then develop a range of surface pattern samples using their chosen shoe.Entry Requirements You need grade 6 or above in Textiles, Art or Product Design and four GCSEs in the 9 to 5 range, including Maths and English.A sample of your creative work will need to be seen at interview.You will get the opportunity to work creatively when designing & making & apply technical & practical expertise.This GCSE allows students to study core technical and designing and making principles, including a broad range of design processes, materials techniques and equipment.WHAT YOU WILL STUDY You will learn a wide range of textile and fabric manipulation techniques to enable you to create garments, fashion accessories, installations or textile art.You will develop research skills, studying contemporary and historical textile and fashion designers as well as developing your drawing and problem solving skills.Components of the course may include: There are often live briefs and projects that will see you working in the community outside College.There is a strong link to the Fashion Academy and employers beyond the College.Unit 2: Controlled Assessment which is approximately forty five hours and constitutes 60% of the course mark.This is a single design and make activity selected from a range of tasks set by the AQA Board.
