Wright Mills released a book entitled ‘The sociological Imagination’.

It was in this book that he laid out a set of guidelines of how to carry out social analysis.

He was a practicing doctor by the time I was four and was the first person in southern California to get an MRI machine for his office.

Being one of the pioneers of Magnetic Resonance Imagining has made him very successful and allowed for my family to be very well off. My father's job has always be so exciting, new, and progressive, that I have also wanted to go into medicine If the invention of MRI had not occurred in history I never would have grown up the way ...

But for a layman, what does the term ‘sociological imagination’ actually mean.

In his own words, Mills claimed “it is the capacity to shift from one perspective to another…the capacity to range from the most impersonal and remote transformations to the most intimate features of the human self – and to see the relations between the two of them.” ....

- The sociological imagination is the “quality of mind” (Mills, 1959: 4) that enables individuals to look outside their private sphere of consciousness and identify the structures and institutions in society that influence or cause their personal experiences.

In this way, by looking at the bigger picture, they can understand their place in society and explain their circumstance in terms of societal influence.

In addition, I think that having a “sociological imagination” also involves a deep appreciation for the importance of society and culture.

Consequently, for a person that has completed a basic introduction to sociology college course and actually paid attention, I would hope that they have been exposed to some basic taste of the sociological imagination.... Wright Mills, the sociological imagination is when an individual views his society as the potential cause for his daily successes and failures.
